Marking today’s independence day for Ghana, we note something very interesting about this country; Ghana has become notorious or birthing icons that create an impact in areas of their interest. We already know about our father in Pan Africanism – Kwame Nkrumah, however, his leadership has inspired even more Ghanaians to make an impact not only in their societies – but in the world.
Daughter of Kwame Nkrumah, Samia became the first female to chair a major political party in Ghana. She did so through campaigning and winning the 2008 elections on first attempt. The is currently the Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party – a party founded by her father and Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah.
More known as Chelsea’s player of the year (2006-2007), Essien has internationally played for his country, Chelsea FC of Engalnd, AC Milan and Real Madrid (on loan). Under his belt lies several accomplishments, including UNFP 2005 player of the year, 2006 BBC African footballer of the year and Ghana’s 2008 player of the year. He still plays with AC Milan
Also known as Kofi Kingston – a WWE Famous Wrestler. Born in Ghana, his family migrated to USA when he was only a year old. He delved into wrestling and became a superstar from that. He has won awards of Wolrd Tag Team Championship with CM Punch, Slammy Award, WWE United States Championship (3 times!) among many others.
Better known as Tinchy Styder, is a 28 year old uk based entertainment business entrepreneur. Born in Ghana, his family moved to the United Kingdom at 9 years of age. He is well known for co-founding the independent label Takeover Roc Nation with non other than USA Rapping billionaire Jay-Z. Apart from founding and running this record label, he has his own clothing line dubbed Star in the Hood as well as his own brand of headphones. His flourished rapping career boasts of four solo albums between 2006 and 2012, with singles easily landing in the Top five of European Charts
